2018 – Summer Vacation – Final Leg

Homey hotel room

One of the pains of traveling when it’s so blazin hot is that when you stop for the night, you have to bring in everything that could melt in the super hot car.  So instead of just using our little 2 wheeler and a couple of hands, we have to use the hotels luggage carrier and practically empty the car and bring it all inside.  I suppose we could leave the cat in the van over night.  That would certainly save on the amount of items we’d have to bring in, but I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing little Smokey was sweating his fur off in the car.

So after a good nights sleep we continued our final leg of the journey home.  We loaded all our stuff back into the van the next morning and started home.  As we traveled out of Texas, we keep seeing this gas stations called Buc-ee’s and there would be their sign with a giant head of a beaver on it.  It piqued my curiosity, I just had to stop!

The next one we saw, I pulled in.  They had so many pumps, I couldn’t believe it.

Rows and rows of pumps

and a statue of the owner of the place

Mr. Buckee himself!

Don’t look too close, even though he has a hat and shirt on, he is not wearing any pants.  Cover those children’s eyes when they walk past!

After we got gas and walked in the store, I was amazed.  It was kind of a cross between a Wal-Mart and a Deli.  They had so many different items for sale.  In the center of the store, they had a place where people where cooking fresh breakfast items and then there was a bakery with fresh donuts and pastries.  Plus, plenty of souvenirs.

Nice Buckee truck

We were there for gas and a pit stop so in the pit stop area

8 Rolls of toilet paper

Yup, count em, that’s 8 rolls of toilet paper.  You could have a major blow out here and not worry about running out of that stuff

Most impressive gas station I’ve ever seen.

After many miles we made it home in one piece.  We had a real good summer visit and it’s only about 100 days and we’ll be making that trip back up again.  In the mean time, hopefully there will be plenty of boating and exploring down here, at least when it starts to cool down some.  So in the mean time…..CHEERS

Well, Once again you have helped us experience places we’ve not yet visited. Travelling in the heat of summer (and you certainly did That!) is an experience all in itself! At least you had a great working AC in the van .. Much better than driving in that heat on a motorcycle!
Totally enjoyed all the photos! Well Done Admiral, well Done!
