Summer vacation is over and we made it home safely. Although I was wondering if someone was spying on us at one of our hotels on the way home.
See that hole in the ceiling? So many things could be in there….snakes….spiders….cameras! Needless to say I didn’t sleep well that night.
Shortly after we got home, we had our first cruise with our boating club. We went to Pink Shell Resort. We always go to the same places but it always seems like we see something new each time. We glad to just be back on the water
I stole this picture from a friend on Facebook but it is one of the best pictures of a dolphin I’ve seen taken by just a person
Pretty impressive huh? The only thing I saw new was this house???
Such a blue roof. I can’t really figure out if it is someone’s very large house or if it’s some kind of business. You decide.
Once we got to the marina and all tied up
See our new flag?
I saw this guy going by
It was hard to see what he was standing on, must be a motorized surf board or something. He was cruising along pretty well.
That night we went out to dinner at a place on the water called Parrot Key. We had to get our picture taken with this guy
As you can tell it was HOT!
We had a good dinner there, not cheap but the ambiance was great.
We spent quite of bit of time in the pool the couple of days we were there. Even me! Nothing like a good soak in a pool to help make your skin smooth
When we went back to the marina later in the day I saw this go by
Florida
Kind of like the Beer Bike in Savannah
Georgia
but it is on the water and you don’t have to pedal. I’ll take the one on the water, thank you very much.
We had a good time and it was fun to get out in the boat again. Our next destination…..Key West!
So we had one more camping trip before we left. It was to be with our daughter and her family again. We had checked the weather and it sounded like it was going to rain pretty much all weekend. So they bowed out, after all, it is hard to amuse 2 small kids in a small trailer all day. What about ours you ask? Ours wasn’t big enough to entertain that many people either. Maybe next time we’ll get a bigger one
There is going to be a next time????
So what did the kids miss? Well, they missed the opportunity to go to
The Rutabaga Festival! How many of you even know what a rutabaga is? And can you believe a whole town eats them and loves them so much they want to have a Festival in honor of this vegetable? Oh, now I get it. Another name for Rutabaga is the Swedish turnip. Well that explains it, there are a lot of Swedes in Minnesota. I myself have never had one but I know my father-in-law ate them with some frequency and he was voted the healthiest child in the county back in the day so I guess they must be good for something.
When we got to the campsite it had quite the incline
Be sure to put those chocks out so we don’t roll into the water.
Gary has never had to put the stabilizer out to their max before. Good thing he has a level onboard to make sure my coffee doesn’t pour out my mug.
Once we got all situated, we went and check out my daughters site. We, again, chose one by a toilet, too bad the toilet turned out to be one of those fancy outhouses. But right across the street from her site she had the full bathhouse with toilets and showers. Those campground maps need better icons.
Her site was right on the water (we had to walk down an incline and peer thru some bushes)
Near the swimming beachExcellent view of the water
Plus she was real close to a playground
So they definitely got the better spot.
It rained some that weekend but not too much. It was dry enough so we were able to have a fire. They sold firewood there for $5.00, But see how much you got!
You got a whole wheelbarrow full! They had rows and rows of neatly chopped wood and an open building that was plum full of cut wood. I was chatting with the guy that was filling the wheelbarrows and he told me they get the prisoners’ over from some near by jail and they are the ones that cut and stack the wood. But he said due to Covid, he was the one cutting and stacking the wood. I don’t think he was too happy about that. Darn Covid!
So they let you take the wheelbarrow as far as your car. We made sure there were no beasties on the wood before we put it in. At least it will stay dry if it rains later.
The next morning we went out to breakfast. The first restaurant was closed because Billy Bob and Lara Sue were getting married. I guess maybe the parents owned the restaurant. So we pulled out our trusty Google and found another restaurant not to far away. We went there and there was a sign on the door that they were closing at noon because they had to attend a wedding. Aaaaah, small town livin. Well we ordered our usual coffee and we got this
Look at the size of the coffee urn! That is the biggest one I have ever had set at my table. Oh goodie, I like lots of coffee in the morning, but don’t worry, it’s only decaf
As I said before, we always like to stroll around the campground and see where the best sites are, how people decorate their camper. I love this one
I want one of those for my car!
We were able to have a fire that night and Gary made this nice fire stick to poke the fire with
He pounded a big nail in the end to help move the logs around. Only the best for the Touch of Class RV equipment.
So we spent the weekend here and it didn’t rain nearly as much as they predicted but who knew?
After a final farewell to our Summer Vacation and to family and friends we made our way back down to paradise.
Sure, we did other things besides camp while we were up North. We watched the grandkids….for a WHOLE weekend
What did we do with them besides tie them up in a closet until their parents came home? J/K
We bought some nerf guns because they already had theirs
with lots of bullets, then we put everyone’s first initial on the bullets so there wouldn’t be any fighting over which bullet was who’s. Then we set up a target range
We were lucky to have this nice fireplace as a back stop. No the items above the wood mantel were not part of the targets Mom. And we didn’t break anything
For dinner we bought them
Brat Balls
The pizza ones were the best. Say, when was the last time you had Brat Balls?
Some other fun things we did was
Do a family brunch at Lake Elmo in, which our kids graciously paid for but I bet after the got the unbelievably HUGE bill, they wished mom and dad had picked up the check LOL. But there were no food fights and they didn’t kick us out for unruly behavior so all was good.
We went to a championship baseball game and we just happened to know some of the players
Gary (and I helped), did some good deeds while we visited. He cleaned up all the head stones for the families
Had to borrow the shovel
We helped our son with the painting of his windows
I supervised and played gopher
Supervisors spot with coffee and entertainment
I got to see fireworks for the first time since we sold the house
oooouuuuu, aaaaaahhhhh
Plus we saw this giant turtle laying eggs on pier one. A first for me.
And now this was just funny
Look at the size of that universal remote. I hope we never have to have one of those LOL.
We also got to finally walk across the new Stillwater bridge
Half way point
It was quite impressive. The do need to get someone up here with some Swifters though
The spiders on the bridge were huge! I’d hate to have one of them jump on me as I walked by.
I was also a little concerned about the many cracks I saw in the bridge
I know there is freezing and thawing in Minnesota but kinda scary on the new bridge.
This was a surprise
A little medallion showing the border line between the two states.
And I couldn’t pass up a picture of one of our favorite places
Looks so impressive from up here. But not as impressive as this
Nothing like a sun rise
Plus we visited lots of friends and family before we took our last camping trip and headed home. Our summer vacation is coming to an end
The next place we went to see was up by Grand Marais, another place we haven’t been to in a very long time. We have both always liked to visit Lake Superior. It is the closest thing you’ll come to seeing an ocean up north.
The place we stayed at was called Lamb’s resort. It had great reviews and was pretty close to Grand Marais, plus it was on the water. You have to make your reservations over the phone each year, no electric stuff for them.
It was really foggy our first day. Here is what we could see from our site
But at least we can see the lake!
On a clear day you could see forever, just not so much today.
We went down by the shore, which was just a short walk away
Foggy here too
You couldn’t see much but we brought our chairs, had an after dinner drink and listened to the water lap on the shore. Aaaah. So relaxing.
There were several options for meals where we stayed so Gary missed out on the gourmet stuff. Where you entered the campsite, off the highway, there was a little restaurant. They had coffee and sweet rolls for breakfast. They even had lunch AND dinner. One night we ordered their pizza for dinner, very good, just the right size and a good value. We decided we wanted to spread the wealth as far as eating out so we went to another restaurant down the road a ways. It was really different. We were very confused as to what we should be doing to get fed there. You walk in and have to order your food, get your own coffee and then they bring the food to your table. Kind of like Culver’s, except the food was fancier. They could of used a little more signage so us old people knew what they expected of us. But we muddled thru, placed our order, got our coffee and found a table. The food that arrived was a little too foo-foo for us and they were sure proud of themselves by the prices they charged. Let’s just say we decided to go to the little place that was closer to the campsite for any more breakfasts
Because it was a little foggy the next day, we decided to check out the State park that was real close to us. As a matter of fact, you can see where we were last night from the park
This looks so close but when you go by foot, it is quite the walk. There was a cool trail to get down here
This is after you get down the trail. You can tell it had been a dry summer by how low this stream is.
We saw a nun out on vacation
That might be a priest but I couldn’t see if he had a collar on. I guess they are entitled to a little vacation too after having to deal with all us sinners.
We found this campsite by the loading ramp
Where it was clearly marked no over night camping
Ok, so you can’t afford to pay the camping fee
At least don’t trash the area. What a bunch of pigs
But we didn’t let them spoil our walk
I saw this sign….but I didn’t see any place to rest nor anyone doing their business in the woods. Rebels that we are, we just ignored it and kept walking up the path past the sign.
Love it!
That night, after dinner, we went back down to the “beach”. Look! Someone’s going swimming!
You brave little devil you. We also saw this ginormous Airdale, or something
Good Doggie
And that was no short person. He was a very well behaved doggie.
The next morning we went into Grand Marais. Here is the first hotel Gary and I stayed at
Still there, just looking a little rough. This restaurant
which was closed this visit, was where we waited for my big brother to come get us when we were on a snowmobiling trip one year. Our tow vehicle ended up in the ditch by where we were staying. They over plowed the roads up there and while we thought we were just pulling off the road, we actually drove into the ditch! Oh what a trip that was.
The Blue Water Cafe didn’t have any kind of entertainment but what they did have was a TV that had like a slide show of old pictures on it. Kids now a days would be thoroughly board. We found it fascinating.
The one “trading post” that was there a long time ago is still there, right by here
Always loved this spot. It is even cool in the winter when you come and the lake is frozen and the rocks are covered in ice from the last storm that blew in. We did have to take a look inside the “Trading Post” and you can’t leave without buying something so I bought
I have some sharp knives at home that don’t slice into my fingers anymore so I figured they must need to be sharpened. Although once I used it, I figured I should have gotten the bigger one because with hands that are going to s***, this small thing is hard to hold tight. Man, it sucks getting old, but hey, I’m still able to spook around so I can’t complain too much.
Outside the store was this Covid reminder
I thought that was pretty cute.
After we checked out the store we did some more exploring. We saw these two house boats in the bay
I think the first one they started out with canoes. Neither of them look like anything I’d want to take out on Superior unless it looked like glass and even then, there better not be any wind
That night we enjoyed one last look at the lake
and I already have a note to call on January 2nd for a reservation next year.
Now our travels take us to Bayfield, WI by the Apostle Islands. We haven’t been here in over 30 years. We wondered how much it had changed. Apparently not much
By the ferry pierLooking down to the harbor
The marina was a little more sheltered and they had come really cool sitting spots by the docks.
Nice table and chair and even a swing.
We did come during the week and there were quite a few places that weren’t even open because of staff shortages. We found that to be true in a lot of the places we visited. So we did a lot of walking around the town and checking it out. They did have this boat museum, and it was Free!
I think this will need to soak up a little water before it is ready to float.
It had some interesting boats and artifacts in it. Some of the displays were donated by the commercial fishermen. Not a very big place but fun to go and check out.
The restaurants that were open were few and far between. We ordered some coffee at one of the places we stopped at for breakfast. When we got the bill, the lady didn’t charge us for our coffee. We thought it was an oversite so we called it to her attention. She said sometimes she didn’t charge for coffee. She got an extra big tip
Another place we were going to go to for lunch didn’t open till 11:30 so we piddly farted around until then. Once we walked up to the restaurant, it was closed. Probably because of lack of tourists and workers. That was ok, we crossed the street and had lunch at an outdoor deck that overlooked the harbor. You had to order and pick up your own drinks and food, but we were down with that. And it was good and a reasonable price.
We had to check out the marina on our walk about town. There we saw this boat
Do you think this guy likes to fish? Gary was jealous that guy had more rods than him.
You can also tell you’re on one of the Great Lakes
More sail boats than power boats. You almost need a sail to get anywhere on this big lake.
We also walked thru this nice little “park”.
Picnic area by the pondCute little bridge over the pond
They had a few old commercial fishing boats in this park. This one they added some little bird houses to them.
We also saw this really different motorcycle
The guy who owned this must of worked with metal, huh?
We found a nice gazebo to sit in to get out of the sun and heat. While sitting there I noticed a big commotion in the water
Mama and her baby looks
You can’t see real well in this picture but it is a mama loon and her babies. It looked like she was teaching them how to fish. It was very cool to watch.
I also saw this guy on the edge of the water
Big Bad Wolf
I know he is supposed to scare the geese away so they don’t poop anywhere but come on! This guy looks like he is ready to take a dump himself. How about this guy instead?
And maybe you could put some legs on these fellas. Geese aren’t that stupid are they?
After we saw the town, we meandered back to our campsite
Nice campfire there pilgrim
Where we had another gourmet meal
Yummy!
What a gourmet cook I am.
Well, after checking everything out, we were glad to see that some things don’t change too much.
This was another Army Corps of Engineering place which means it was a really cheap spot to go to. At this place, instead of checking in at the gate, we went to our site and a park ranger stopped by to verify we were paid and who we were. We had a really nice big spot….and close to the bathrooms.
nice gravely spot
Our picnic table was metal encased in plastic, (better and cleaner than the wood ones) and it had this thing on one end
Anyone know what that is? I didn’t either, I had to ask the Park Ranger. Because the picnic tables are plastic coated, this thing is a place to set your hot pans so you don’t melt the plastic. I guess they have learned over the years. I don’t know about you but I have hot pads in Kermit for just such an occasion. But people were raised differently I guess.
This campsite also had some other little oddities. Like here is their bathhouse
Looks pretty nice
Fooled ya! It is just a fancy outhouse. Keep that flap down there kiddo, it helps keep the smell down.
Another weird thing we saw was
Do they want me to rake the gravel? Rake the leaves? Use the shovels to pick up dog poop? Bury a dead body I might find? I wonder what the fine is if you steal them?
In their real bathhouse they actually had showers
Push Button Shower
This was a push button shower. You pushed the button above the on/off valve. It seemed like it only worked for like 15 seconds, so you were pushing it quite a bit. If you were thinking about taking a nice long hot shower, you can forget that or else you’re gunna have a really sore finger by the time you’re done.
Another weird thing they had at this place was something I bet some of you don’t even know what it is
Ma Bell
That is a pay phone. I checked and it costs .50 to make a call. Can you believe it! It must get very little use, except for those bad people that don’t want to get their call traced to their phone
Does anyone know anyone who doesn’t have a cell phone? Although I do have a friend who kids made her get a cell phone so incase anything happened to her she could call for help. She keeps it on her bed side table…..all the time. Oh well, you lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.
There was this cool looking damn in the park too.
The water looked like it was a little lower than normal but there must have been good fishing there because people were pulling in some good size fish. The water was pretty clear too.
The place also had some really nice walking trails and we saw some interesting stuff as we were out and about. One of the things we ran into was this couple, probably the camp hosts, (ya, what a gig that is. You get to keep your RV there for free. Sure you have to be a friendly person and like talking to people, sure some of the jobs require you to pick up and empty trash, sure some of the hosts have to clean and restock toilets but hey, you might be able to have use of this cool golf cart too)
Camp Hosts
We ran into these two while we were out walking the trail. Do you see that tank in the back of the golf cart? See how dirty it is? At our marina in Minnesota, they pump out peoples boats using a golf cart with a big tank on the back, so you can imagine their confusion when I asked them if they were a portable pump out
I think I offended them. They had this shocked look on their face, “NO! We are watering the plants!” Whoops sorry, you wouldn’t think their tank would be so dirty looking if all they had in there was just water. We’ll have to keep an eye out to make sure they don’t sabotage our site while we are scoping out the place.
Some of the other things we saw was this very interesting….interesting….I am not sure exactly what it is
It is very nicely built and has a great little bench to sit on if your tied. A little box so short people can look thru the square windows. But what do you see?
Same thing you see if you turn around. You wouldn’t be able to use it for a sneak peek at a deer or a bear or anything because they would of been able to see you creeping up and run further into the woods. I guess I should of asked a Park Ranger or those Camp Hosts what it is for, but it is more fun to speculate
We did come along this nice spot to take a picture of us
How does this work????There we go, two happy campers
I have always thought of Gull Lake as a prestigious place to have your little lake cabin. I know my former boss talked lovingly about his fun here when he was a boy. I always thought he would love to have a little cabin here. How about these for little cabins
Cute little shacks
They also had a ramp here you could use. We took a walk down there to check it out. We saw this very ingenious fellow.
What a smart person to come up with this idea, and it’s portable. So where ever there are rich people that don’t or can’t take care of their weeds on their lake front, it’s Beach Boys to the rescue!
As we meandered our way back to our site, we saw this cute little RV.
Airstream Base Camp
Cute little buggar but at close to $50 grand for that puppy, I’ll stick with what I have.
We were able to have a nice campfire while we were there
Nice little blaze
Poor Smokie, he can’t come out to be by the fire. Can you imagine that if he got too close and caught his tail on fire, MEEEEOOOOWWWW!
So all in all this was another nice place to go, we’ll probably come back here again.
We got all unloaded and settled in to our base camp and we had out next camping trip all planned. The next site we went to was called O’Neil Creek campground. This time we went with my daughter and her family. It isn’t a place Gary and I would normally go because it was too family orientated. Not that we don’t like families but we prefer the nice quiet places.
We went over a weekend, so lots more people than we are used to. This place was kind of unique in that they had some kid drive a golf cart to show you where your site was and then he moved the picnic table around so you could get your camper backed in where you wanted it. Kind of handy to have the young muscle drag that picnic table from spot to spot until you finally decided where to put it. I remember dragging those picnic tables on the beach, those suckers were heavy. We had 4 people, one on each corner, to move them. They are probably heavier now that we are old and decrepit.
My daughter arrived before us and had her site all set up. We just brought over our chairs and helped set up the open sided tent
Wala! Ready for the weekend. She picked a really good spot, right on the water. We tried to get one by her but all the sites were taken, so we settled for one close to her and close to the restrooms LOL.
They rent tubes here so you can float down this river. It is a nice flow and not very deep if someone happens to fall off their tube. Our son-in-law showed up later, after work and he brought the kids. It is always a little easier to set things up without those little munchkins trying to “help”
Saturday started out ok but then the rain started. It was a good thing the tent was up over the picnic table. It gave us some place to sit out of the rain. And boy, did it rain! We had a little river flowing thru the camp site
But you know what, people don’t let that stop them from having fun. The campsite had some activities scheduled for the kids. One of them was water fight. You were supposed to grab whatever water apparatus you could find, be that water balloons, water guns, buckets of water…whatever. Then you were suppose to be out by the playground at a certain time. Then a few of the teenagers that worked there got in a work truck and they drove around the playground throwing water balloons, squirting squirt guns etc. and then the kids tried to get them wet and anyone else who was around them. It didn’t matter that it was raining buckets. Everyone had a great time.
It turns out quite a few of these sites are what they called “seasonal” people. Those are the people that pay annually and get to keep their RV right there and have the same spot year after year.
Nice set up
We checked on the price and actually, it wasn’t too bad. Cheaper than having a cabin I think.
When there was a lull in the rain, I did see these rather inventive individuals
Ice Run
Kind of the lazy man’s way to fill an ice cooler but I love the transportation. The guy in front reminds me of other people I have seen that have the big fifth wheels. For those of you that don’t know what a fifth wheel is
These need to be hauled by a heavy duty pick up truck. The are a little hard to maneuver around the campground so they have a large plastic container, that has wheels on the bottom of it. They dump their waste from the 5th wheeler to the container, attach the container to the hitch on their truck, then drag the container to the dump station to dump it. That way they don’t have to move the 5th wheel just to dump it if they are staying some place for a while. I’d hate to see one of those little containers go flying off the pick up truck if they were driving too fast.
One of the nice things about this place was seeing as it rained most of the day on Saturday, we were able to order pizza and other food and they delivered to our site! What a deal! Reasonable prices and it tasted good too.
We did get Gary to play some card games with us, what a trooper, but mostly he just kept us company while the real card sharks did their thing. We tried not to beat the kids too many times.
We left a little early Sunday, the weather wasn’t too promising for that day either. But, I am sure we’ll be back next year if this is were everyone wants to go. Next time, we pick the place on the water instead of the place by the bathroom
Our next stop was going to be Canal Campground at Grand River, KY. This place is also called the land between the lakes. This place turned out to be my favorite place. We had a spot right on the water.
What a view. Ignore that nasty looking table with little pine cones on it.
We could watch the boats go by on the lake and people swimming in the swimming hole
Swimming beach
It was a nice spot right up until the point where the screaming kids came out to go swimming, then there went our peace and quiet.
After we had been there a while, we got a new neighbor
Tiny camper
This thing was so small! You can see the containers full of stuff that they took out of the camper. They had one of those tents with no sides that they set up first. It was just going to go in the front of the camper to extend their living space. Then, the weather changed and it looked like rain, so they took down that tent and got a bigger one out that would cover the whole camper. I am not kidding when I say it took them about 3 hours to set up. When they were all done, it looked like this
Is that a changing room?
So, when they were all done, they had a little table hanging off the camper, a small step stool, multiple containers on the ground and I don’t know what that little tent is for. Is it a changing room or a place to do your business? Oh well, good for them. If I had to go to that much effort, I think I’d stay home. And then guess what? They left around 4 to go out to dinner, and didn’t get back till dark, then by the time we got up at 6:30, they were all packed up and gone. Jeez, all that work for one night. No way.
We were able to enjoy ourselves and the nature that was around us. We saw some lovely birds.
Cardinal (that picture almost looks fake, doesn’t it?)Mama goose and her gooselings
And you can see by the lady standing by the water, you could fish if you wanted to.
When it came time for dinner
Smokey helping with dinner
Smokey insisted on helping with my gourmet meal
Gourmet Meal
Mac and cheese with fancy hot dogs, yummy
I will say again how lucky I am that I can throw any kind of meal at Gary and 99.99% of the time, he’ll eat it. Which is good because after all these years I am still not a gourmet cook.
The next day we took a trip to Green Turtle Marina. This was a marina we stayed at for a week when we were taking the Navigator down for the first time. It didn’t appear to have changed that much and we even found this little gem for sale
Outer Reef
It was a 1981 32 foot Outer Reef going for a cool price of $44,900. Looked pretty sweet but it already had an offer pending on it
So instead of a new boat, we went to the ships store and bought some new T-Shirts. Can’t leave empty handed.
Aside from walking around the park and the marina, we didn’t go to many places by this campsite. We sat and enjoyed the scenery and tossed back a few beers. So relaxing!
A cat nap and a Captain nap
If I haven’t mentioned before, I’ll say now, there are sure a lot of creepy crawly bugs out in nature. That is the one drawback I don’t really care for. Especially by the bathrooms. I don’t know what it is, but all the bugs seem to hang out either by the door to the woman’s restroom or inside the woman’s restroom.
Bugbug
Those two look very similar don’t they? At least they stayed put while I did my business. When I went to wash my hands though
Yuk! That is the soap in the bathrooms.
That was the soap dispenser. I’m not gunna lie, I didn’t wash my hands with that stuff
On the day we left there were shad flies on Kermit
Shad flies
I am glad we didn’t have a full blown hatch while we were there. Disgusting, worms with wings!
This was a great place to camp. I’d recommend this place to anyone. This was our last camping site on the ride home. Next stop…..our summer hide-a-way.
Those of you that love corvettes will hopefully enjoy this. No boat stuff at all, well….maybe just one little picture.
The Corvette Museum was at Bowling Green KY. There were no campsites and no water close by so we stayed at a hotel. But at least this museum let me take pictures inside. So here goes
This is the place that had that sink hole open up inside that sucked down a few cars. I hope there is stuff about that inside.
1953 Corvette chassis1946 Stout Concept car. The first fiberglass automobile1947 MG RoadsterThese are from 1955, almost as young as I am. I think they might have held up better than me.1961 corvetteRemember when people actually pumped your gas FOR you?1967 in Gary’s favorite color1973 Stingray2015 Corvette race car. Do you think they could of washed it up a bit?Budweiser, our favorite beer when we were youngerThe three people in the picture were planning for some kind of reorganization. If you visit later, there may be some changes. Here is what I wanted to seeThis was one that fell down the hole but they were able to fix it up.You can look down the hole. I don’t know about you but I think I would of filled that in with something.Aaaaah! A boat. Even while looking at cars we find a boat.2021 Corvettes
Now this is kind of cool. You can order your new corvette and then have it delivered to the museum. On the day it is ready for pick up, you come, tour the museum and at the end, your car is waiting for you to drive away. Each car has a plaque by it that says what kind of car it is, what color it is and then who the new owner is. When you arrive, they have someone sit with you and go over all the bells and whistles in your new car. And let me tell you, the dashboard looks like that of an fighter jet, so many knobs and dials. Ooooooh! Pretty.
And ya know Gary was so excited and surprised when I gave him his very own 2021 Corvette…..
T-Shirt! I know, I know, I am so generous
On to our next stop. My favorite spot of the whole trip.
I forgot to mention the restaurant we stopped at in Savannah…..
and mainly my toilet experience, which I know you are dying to hear about.
Step up toilet
So when I went to use the restroom, both of these doors were closed. When one of the ladies came out and was washing her hands, I just had to get a photo of the way you got up to the toilet itself. If you notice the light around the other door, you know these things aren’t exactly sound proof. Well I was having some stomach issues and unfortunately, I let some really loud and fragrant toots loose. I could hear the women by the sinks trying to ignore me until they got hit by the smell. “Oh My!” one of them said. Then they scurried out of there, I giggled all the way back to my table.
Ok, enough of that. Back to our next stop which was Pine Mountain RV park in Pigeon Forge, KY. The home of Dollywood! We arrived on a weekend, unfortunately, so the traffic was crazy. We always use our Garmin when we are traveling just because sometimes you can lose your signal if you use just your phone. When we were close to the RV park, the Garmin started taking us down very skinny, winding roads to get to our final destination. We were thinking it’s a good thing Kermit is the same width as our car because we were not sure a really wide or long RV would fit down these roads. After we got settled in, we figured there has to be a better way in than the way we just took, so we looked at the map. We found out we could have gotten to the campsite by taking a left off the main drag and driving a few blocks! That silly Garmin, always having fun with us.
Well the trip there was pretty rough, we ran into lots of construction and unfortunately, the repair job on our fender just didn’t hold up. This time Gary decided to just take off the fender and put back on the bigger tire. Too bad it was in the rain, again.
Luckily it is warm rain
But I helped here too by holding the umbrella
Such a good helper
Gary got pretty wet for having an umbrella held over him.
Now this campsite was more of a concrete jungle. Rather than surrounded by trees and nature, we were in the middle of a busy city.
No grass here but the inside of Kermit is nice and clean.
Even here, people like to personalize their camp sites.
Look at this site. Pretty yes, but looks like a lot of work to me. There are 4 potted plants and 2 flowering plants. Seems kind of crazy to load these up into your RV, drag them cross country, and then place them around your campsite. You’d think they’d want to get away from having to water their plants. Of course they could all be plastic, I didn’t get creepy close to find out. But wow! Some of these people go all out.
This place did have a really nice bathrooms and showers. A big plus in my book.
You need a secret code to get in
Plus they had ice cream in their store. I was one happy camper!
We found out this place was very similar to Branson, if you have ever been there.
I think I’ve seen that Gorilla before
I had made reservation for the Titanic attraction at the same time I made the camp site reservation. So we went to that on Sunday
We had to see it. It was a boat!
Before we went in, they gave us each a card with one of the passengers on it. As we walked thru the exhibit, we looked for our passenger to see if we could find out if we died or lived. They wouldn’t let us take any pictures inside, boohoo. What do they think we are going to do with those pictures, put them on the internet or something?
They did have a replica of the Grand Staircase there. Did you know that they bought the most expensive, top quality items to deck out the boat? Guess what they had on the floor around the Grand Staircase? Formica! Apparently that was top quality stuff back then. It even looked like marble. Everyone was able to walk up the Grand Staircase. Woohoo. But remember, NO PICTURES! Although I did see some people sneakily take them, naughty, naughty.
They actually didn’t have too many original artifacts from the ship but it was still a good way to kill a few hours. We found out that we both survived the sinking. Of course I did, how else would I be able to write this LOL.
I did get some nice pictures of some authentic artifacts
The Captain standing next to the Captain’s hatAnchor
Kingley Netherton did make the anchor for the Titantic. This is a reproduction. I’m not even sure if it was made to size because the original was 18 feet long, the steel head was 10 feet wide and it weighed 15 tons. You people good with math can figure out if the anchor is to spec based on the people in the picture…can’t you?
We had a couple of days to just relax. The traffic was just to busy to try and go out and check out the area. I think we may have ended up shooting someone. So our next stop is Corvette museum in Bowling Green, KY. Tallyho!
