What I did on my Summer Vacation Part 7

The next place we went to was

This was another Army Corps of Engineering place which means it was a really cheap spot to go to. At this place, instead of checking in at the gate, we went to our site and a park ranger stopped by to verify we were paid and who we were. We had a really nice big spot….and close to the bathrooms.

nice gravely spot

Our picnic table was metal encased in plastic, (better and cleaner than the wood ones) and it had this thing on one end

Anyone know what that is? I didn’t either, I had to ask the Park Ranger. Because the picnic tables are plastic coated, this thing is a place to set your hot pans so you don’t melt the plastic. I guess they have learned over the years. I don’t know about you but I have hot pads in Kermit for just such an occasion. But people were raised differently I guess.

This campsite also had some other little oddities. Like here is their bathhouse

Looks pretty nice

Fooled ya! It is just a fancy outhouse. Keep that flap down there kiddo, it helps keep the smell down.

Another weird thing we saw was

Do they want me to rake the gravel? Rake the leaves? Use the shovels to pick up dog poop? Bury a dead body I might find? I wonder what the fine is if you steal them?

In their real bathhouse they actually had showers

Push Button Shower

This was a push button shower. You pushed the button above the on/off valve. It seemed like it only worked for like 15 seconds, so you were pushing it quite a bit. If you were thinking about taking a nice long hot shower, you can forget that or else you’re gunna have a really sore finger by the time you’re done.

Another weird thing they had at this place was something I bet some of you don’t even know what it is

Ma Bell

That is a pay phone. I checked and it costs .50 to make a call. Can you believe it! It must get very little use, except for those bad people that don’t want to get their call traced to their phone

Does anyone know anyone who doesn’t have a cell phone? Although I do have a friend who kids made her get a cell phone so incase anything happened to her she could call for help. She keeps it on her bed side table…..all the time. Oh well, you lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.

There was this cool looking damn in the park too.

The water looked like it was a little lower than normal but there must have been good fishing there because people were pulling in some good size fish. The water was pretty clear too.

The place also had some really nice walking trails and we saw some interesting stuff as we were out and about. One of the things we ran into was this couple, probably the camp hosts, (ya, what a gig that is. You get to keep your RV there for free. Sure you have to be a friendly person and like talking to people, sure some of the jobs require you to pick up and empty trash, sure some of the hosts have to clean and restock toilets but hey, you might be able to have use of this cool golf cart too)

Camp Hosts

We ran into these two while we were out walking the trail. Do you see that tank in the back of the golf cart? See how dirty it is? At our marina in Minnesota, they pump out peoples boats using a golf cart with a big tank on the back, so you can imagine their confusion when I asked them if they were a portable pump out

I think I offended them. They had this shocked look on their face, “NO! We are watering the plants!” Whoops sorry, you wouldn’t think their tank would be so dirty looking if all they had in there was just water. We’ll have to keep an eye out to make sure they don’t sabotage our site while we are scoping out the place.

Some of the other things we saw was this very interesting….interesting….I am not sure exactly what it is

It is very nicely built and has a great little bench to sit on if your tied. A little box so short people can look thru the square windows. But what do you see?

Same thing you see if you turn around. You wouldn’t be able to use it for a sneak peek at a deer or a bear or anything because they would of been able to see you creeping up and run further into the woods. I guess I should of asked a Park Ranger or those Camp Hosts what it is for, but it is more fun to speculate

We did come along this nice spot to take a picture of us

How does this work????
There we go, two happy campers

I have always thought of Gull Lake as a prestigious place to have your little lake cabin. I know my former boss talked lovingly about his fun here when he was a boy. I always thought he would love to have a little cabin here. How about these for little cabins

Cute little shacks

They also had a ramp here you could use. We took a walk down there to check it out. We saw this very ingenious fellow.

What a smart person to come up with this idea, and it’s portable. So where ever there are rich people that don’t or can’t take care of their weeds on their lake front, it’s Beach Boys to the rescue!

As we meandered our way back to our site, we saw this cute little RV.

Airstream Base Camp

Cute little buggar but at close to $50 grand for that puppy, I’ll stick with what I have.

We were able to have a nice campfire while we were there

Nice little blaze

Poor Smokie, he can’t come out to be by the fire. Can you imagine that if he got too close and caught his tail on fire, MEEEEOOOOWWWW!

So all in all this was another nice place to go, we’ll probably come back here again.

Did that pay phone actually work ??!! It wasn’t a leftover relic from the stone age ? I don’t recall seeing a working pay phone in, at least, 15 years.
Isn’t that insane, what those Airstream trailers cost ?
As for the wooden sitting structure, there are goofy paintings of weird people on the other side of the wall and when humans look thru the window, the animals laugh at them… 🙂
