What I did on my Summer Vacation Part 5

Our next stop was going to be Canal Campground at Grand River, KY. This place is also called the land between the lakes. This place turned out to be my favorite place. We had a spot right on the water.

What a view. Ignore that nasty looking table with little pine cones on it.

We could watch the boats go by on the lake and people swimming in the swimming hole

Swimming beach

It was a nice spot right up until the point where the screaming kids came out to go swimming, then there went our peace and quiet.

After we had been there a while, we got a new neighbor

Tiny camper

This thing was so small! You can see the containers full of stuff that they took out of the camper. They had one of those tents with no sides that they set up first. It was just going to go in the front of the camper to extend their living space. Then, the weather changed and it looked like rain, so they took down that tent and got a bigger one out that would cover the whole camper. I am not kidding when I say it took them about 3 hours to set up. When they were all done, it looked like this

Is that a changing room?

So, when they were all done, they had a little table hanging off the camper, a small step stool, multiple containers on the ground and I don’t know what that little tent is for. Is it a changing room or a place to do your business? Oh well, good for them. If I had to go to that much effort, I think I’d stay home. And then guess what? They left around 4 to go out to dinner, and didn’t get back till dark, then by the time we got up at 6:30, they were all packed up and gone. Jeez, all that work for one night. No way.

We were able to enjoy ourselves and the nature that was around us. We saw some lovely birds.

Cardinal (that picture almost looks fake, doesn’t it?)
Mama goose and her gooselings

And you can see by the lady standing by the water, you could fish if you wanted to.

When it came time for dinner

Smokey helping with dinner

Smokey insisted on helping with my gourmet meal

Gourmet Meal

Mac and cheese with fancy hot dogs, yummy

I will say again how lucky I am that I can throw any kind of meal at Gary and 99.99% of the time, he’ll eat it. Which is good because after all these years I am still not a gourmet cook.

The next day we took a trip to Green Turtle Marina. This was a marina we stayed at for a week when we were taking the Navigator down for the first time. It didn’t appear to have changed that much and we even found this little gem for sale

Outer Reef

It was a 1981 32 foot Outer Reef going for a cool price of $44,900. Looked pretty sweet but it already had an offer pending on it

So instead of a new boat, we went to the ships store and bought some new T-Shirts. Can’t leave empty handed.

Aside from walking around the park and the marina, we didn’t go to many places by this campsite. We sat and enjoyed the scenery and tossed back a few beers. So relaxing!

A cat nap and a Captain nap

If I haven’t mentioned before, I’ll say now, there are sure a lot of creepy crawly bugs out in nature. That is the one drawback I don’t really care for. Especially by the bathrooms. I don’t know what it is, but all the bugs seem to hang out either by the door to the woman’s restroom or inside the woman’s restroom.

Those two look very similar don’t they? At least they stayed put while I did my business. When I went to wash my hands though

Yuk! That is the soap in the bathrooms.

That was the soap dispenser. I’m not gunna lie, I didn’t wash my hands with that stuff

On the day we left there were shad flies on Kermit

Shad flies

I am glad we didn’t have a full blown hatch while we were there. Disgusting, worms with wings!

This was a great place to camp. I’d recommend this place to anyone. This was our last camping site on the ride home. Next stop…..our summer hide-a-way.

The little tent is their bathroom. A friend of ours watch someone set one up. I’d walk to the public restrooms.

There are some nasty out camping. But if you just leave them be they leave you alone. It’s when the run or leap it’s always at you..

I/we have been by that Land Between the Lakes 3 times in the last few years, but never looked into it. The web pages for the places on it look interesting. We are driving down to Sarasota for 2 weeks in Feb, but that doesn’t seem like a good time to stop and check it out.
I was at the Corvette Museum the third weekend in June at a private banquet. We got to wander around the museum after hours but the gift shop was closed, so no cool T-shirt. The cars that were crushed when the floor fell in are crazy to look at. To think a few were 1 of 1, never driven cars and are now scrap is hard to comprehend.
