2018 Summer Vacation – Off for San Antonio Texas

We arrive back at my daughters and planed to stay a few days before we headed out to San Antonio Texas to visit a high school friend of Gary’s who recently moved back here from about 18 years of life in Germany.  Both he and his wife worked for the US Armed Forces while in Germany and now just his wife worked for them.  Now that they were back in the states, we decided we’d visit them on our way home.

So while we spent our last few days visiting with the grandkids

Smokey had to take one last nap

Aaaaah, so relaxing

and Gary needed a hair cut before we left.

How do you think we afford to pay for our fuel?  Free hair cuts by Colleen

Then we were on our way.  I will say it was very hot on our trip down.

Dang! I think I am going to melt!

I’m glad we had our A/C fixed before we left.  On our travels, we stopped one day at a Jack in the Box for lunch.  They had the bathrooms locked and could only be opened by the cashier.  We got our food and skedaddled out of there!

We were able to hop on this hi-way

Gotta love Texas

That’s right!  80 MPH, woohoo!  We are cookin now.  This is the fastest speed limit WE have ever seen.  Of course we cranked it up to 85.  Then…….screech! What??? 17 MPH in a 80?  Both lanes are crawling along.  We were hoping this wouldn’t go on for ever as I am sure everyone else was.  When we finally got to the problem it was some big machine traveling down the road at 17 MPH with a truck behind it with its flashers on.  Really?  You couldn’t have found a side street to take that thing on?  Man!  The nerve of some people.  Just because you pay taxes you think you can drive anywhere you want, hrumph!  At least it didn’t take us long to get around that guy and once we passed him, we kicked it back up to 85 MPH and we were on our way again.

One of the places we were going to be traveling by was Waco Texas.  Ya know….the town that “Fixer Upper” is out of.  I just had to stop at the Silo place and maybe grab a cookie or a cup cake.  They sure look good on the HGTV show.  So we took a little detour.  Now keep in mind the temperature is still at or better than the 104°.  They had a que line just like at a Disney ride to get into the bakery.  There were maybe 20 people in the line which isn’t that many if it is only 75°, but Gary and I looked at each other.  Nope. No cupcake is worth melting in the heat, so we just headed back on the highway.

And in no time at all, we finally arrived at San Antonio.

To bad you didn’t stop in and try a cupcake.
That is on my bucket list.
Now someday I may actually have to GO there and get one myself.

But, But you may have run into Chip or Joann!! ;-). 104 is 104 … it is just plain Hot! Good decision!
Montana is 75 or 80 .. pretty sure the latter before you hit the mountains. You sure can cover some miles and you can see for miles, so can see the critters and slow down, before you hit them and they become speed bumps.
San Antonio Bound! Can’t wait to see your photos!

  3. aw fun! I am originally from San Antonio:)
