The Verdict is……

We got the call  on the boat.  It is not going to be $8000, only $1200 to change out the belt and replace the tensioner (whatever the heck that is).  That was good news.   They must have had a skinny guy with monkey arms that can bend like a pretzel :), and we only have to wait about a week and a half to have it all done.  Whew, good news all around.

Can we go to this boat yard when we’re there?
I would love to meet the skinny guy with the monkey arms who can twist himself into a pretzel who worked on your boat! Maybe we can ask him if we can take a picture with him because I’m pretty sure it would go viral! 😉

Good to hear they were honest about the cost of the belt replacement. The tensioner is the small pulley in your previous engine pic and what keeps the belt tight around the important pulleys so it can’t jump a cog or two and mess up the valve timing. You have one on the van for the serpentine belt that runs the alternator, A/C compressor, etc. Which is a reminder to have that checked as well. The belts get brittle with age, crack and break at the most inconvenient times and the tensioner has bearings that wear out and can fail.
I wouldn’t think they would’ve had you bring the boat in for the bottom clean/paint and have it sit in their way for 3 months. Hopefully, you will have it back long before then and can plan your Christmas light display for the boat parade 🙂
