June at Aqua

June has been pretty warm here.  But the humidity seems to be down during the day and higher at night which is OK cause we just turn on the air.  We have been able to cool the boat with just one air conditioner on at a time.  We were pleasantly surprised with our electric bill for May, only $37!  That is quite a difference from when we were here in November and December.  I guess the electric heaters really do suck electricity.  Lesson learned :).

When it rains here, it really storms.  We had a big storm roll thru here on Thursday and the wind was blowing so hard it got the back of our boat wet.  That means the rain blew in about 55 feet from the other side of our covered dock.  Here is a picture from a storm last night about 9:30 P.M.

Kind of hard to see as I took this with my phone but the 3 blue squares are the lighted up night sky.  I was looking out the back of our boat to the dock behind us.  And man, was it loud under those covers.  It is something to watch.  Apparently there was a big boat that was anchored out and his boat was struck by lightening, took out all of his electronics.  He had to be towed in by BoatUS.  Glad that wasn’t us and really…..didn’t he listen to the weather????

As I mentioned before, we are having the marina install a new hoist for us.  Gary is going nuts cause they had to take off the railing and cushions and the fly bridge is pretty messy(by Gary’s standards :))20140513 new hoist (2) 20140513 new hoist (3)

We rented a spot for the little boat while the hoist is being installed so we can at least use it.  Ours is the one with the black cover.  We are using one of the little lifts at the end of our dock where people normally put their jet ski’s.

We have several places we want to explore around here.  One that is relatively close by is the Shiloh National Military Park.  This was a great place to go and it is free to the public, which makes it even better.

Here is a link that better explains what the battle at Shiloh was all about http://www.nps.gov/shil/historyculture/shiloh-history.htm   This is supposed to be one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil war.

We went first to the visitor center to see what’s happening.  Every hour on the hour they have a movie about what happened at the park.  We would suggest you watch this movie first as it really explains everything so when you are looking around, things will make more sense.  They also have several demonstrations around the park for you to go to, all free.

The park is pretty big and it has markers thru out the park showing which battalion was where and at what time during the various battles.  They have a driving tour which we took.  (It would take you quite a while if you were to walk it, and you dang well better be in tip top shape with a good bladder :)).  Here are some pictures I took and I have posted more on the “Points of Interest” page.

All in all the Shiloh park was a good way to spend a few hours and learn a little about the Civil war.

Back at the marina……you guys complain about your dandelions in your yard. Look at these, they must be a foot and a half tall

It is not heated but you don’t need it when the sun is beating down on it.  It can be pretty empty during the week, we hear too much screaming during the weekend so we avoid it.  🙂

That’s it for now, we’ll update when we do some more exploring.  I think summer is finally here, although I heard it was in the 50’s in Minnesota :(. TTFN.
