A few days ago it was so cold over night that when we woke up, all our doors were frozen shut. Luckily we got them open otherwise we’d still be there :). There was even ice on our railings.
We went to the office to let them know that we’d be leaving the next day. We made small talk about the cold weather. One of the guys told us the weather was fine until you “Yankees” showed up! What could we do? We greed with them. What can I say, the weather has been crappy and unusually cold the entire time we have have left the marina. Oh well, it is still warmer where ever we are compared to Minnesota so I won’t complain too much 🙂
We left the marina early on the 8th. There was ice in the marina close to shore and the first two slips on our dock had ice in them. We were hoping it wasn’t an indication of what to expect on the trip out. Gary even had to pour warm water on the lines to get them to uncoil as they were frozen to the dock. We had ice on our thru-hull.
You can also see where the water from our heating splashed on the dock and froze there.
We ended up driving thru 200 feet of ice, 3/4’s inch thick. When we turned the corner to enter the TennTom waterway the front was full of ice, white ice. We knew that would be too thick for us to drive thru and we couldn’t see how far it went……we turned around and headed back to the dock. We’ll have to wait until it melts in a few days.
We’ll try again on Friday.
